LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The impact of flooding along the Mississippi River is being discussed in Washington D.C.

La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat joined members of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative for meetings last week.

More than 20 billion dollars of reported losses impacted communities along the Mississippi River during the 2019 flood season.

And the Mayor also presented a $6.85 billion proposal to help deal with the future impacts of flooding.

The infrastructure plans would impact the river in several ways.

“The locks and dams and the Army Corps and the green infrastructure that we’re really looking to build to help with water flow, navigation and restoration, but also flood capacity and flood storage,” said La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat.

Kabat and other mayors in attendance heard from leaders from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Society of Civil Engineers and American Soybean Association during their meeting.
